چکیده

This paper focuses on dimensions characterizing the execution of global ECA rules within multi-database systems (MDBS). The MDBS speci cities that a ect rule execution are identi ed and integrated in the dimensions currently used to characterize the active rule behavior. As a result, we propose a rule execution taxonomy for global rules. It is composed of dimensions structured in three levels that concern one rule execution, the execution of modules (sets) of rules and the coordination of distributed rule execution. The dimensions should be seen as a framework for designing and developing execution engines managing global rules in MDBS. Such an approach is the result of both unbundling active database management systems and using rules in a distributed environment.

Using Business Rules within a Design Process of Active Databases

Modeling behavior is an important task of the information system engineering process. This task is especially important when information systems are centered on active databases, which allow the replacement of parts of application programs with active rules. To relieve programmers from using either traditional or ad hoc techniques to design active databases, it is necessary to develop new techn...

Reducing Retrieval Time in Automated Storage and Retrieval System with a Gravitational Conveyor Based on Multi-Agent Systems

The main objective of this study is to reduce the retrieval time of a list of products by choosing the best combination of storage and retrieval rules at any time. This is why we start by implementing some storage rules in an Automated Storage/Retrieval System (Automated Storage and Retrieval System: AS/RS) fitted with a gravity conveyor while some of these rules are dedicated to storage and ot...

A Graphical Editor for the Conceptual Design of Business Rules

At the conceptual level, business rules are formulated from an external observation perspective according to the event-condition-action structure of rules in active database systems. Business rules express how an external observer could monitor calendar time and the database state to recognize prede ned situations and to react to them accordingly. Modeling such business rules requires concepts ...

Model Checking Active Database Rules

An active database is an autonomical database system that can react to events occurring inside and outside of the database. A set of active database rules defines a reactive behavior of the active database. One of the most potential problems with active database systems is nontermination of active database rules. This paper proposes an approach for automatically checking the termination of acti...

An Active Rule Base Simulator based on Petri Nets

Event-condition-action rules, in active database systems, should be performed carefully, because their firings can produce inconsistent states in database systems. In this paper, an ECA rule base simulator is described, named ECAPNSim, which uses a Conditional Colored Petri Net model to depict ECA rules. It can model ECA rules, simulate their behavior, and perform a static analysis.
